While the majority of lawmakers who impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua cited ethnically divisive politics, undermining government and alleged corruption, Gatundu North MP Elijah “Kururia” Njoroge voted yes because of the DP’s insults.

The first-time legislator has revealed he was angered by how Gachagua went around abusing leaders.

Njoroge said he was particularly enraged when he insulted former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga for mobilising youths from Mt Kenya region to unite.

“Gachagua insulted Maina Njenga and our young men, calling them Mungiki. It angered me. That is why I impeached him” Njoroge said.

This he claimed made them targets of law enforcers and some, including old men and women, were arrested in Nyeri and Murang’a and later arraigned in court.

He pointed out several instances the second in command abused leaders for refusing to heed his demands.

“After he was sworn in, he insulted and made disgusting accusations against former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his mother.  Now he is looking for Uhuru to rescue him” he said.

He condemned Gachagua for attacking Azimio leader Raila Odinga and his allies even after they took the government.

“He insulted people in every area. He offended Oscar Sudi and Kipchumba Murkomen claiming they were driving a wedge between him and president William Ruto. He did not spare us the Mt Kenya region. We were tired of him”.

The controversial lawmaker argued that the former Mathira MP is on verge of losing the prime seat “because of his mouth”.

“Gachagua should have stopped being abusive after they won the elections. On swearing day, he should have just taken the oath and keep his mouth shut but he messed up and continued doing so” he argued.
