The body of the late Dr. Philip Brightone Buchere, the Director of the Senate Liaison Office, was received early Sunday morning at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by his family, friends, and colleagues from Parliament.
Led by the Clerk of the Senate and Secretary to the Parliamentary Service Commission, Mr. Jeremiah Nyegenye, CBS, the Parliamentary team gathered at the airport to accord Dr. Buchere a dignified homecoming following his death in Germany on November 24, 2025. Dr. Buchere passed away while undergoing treatment.
Described as a distinguished public servant and a dedicated champion of devolution, Dr. Buchere served the Senate with integrity, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to strengthening ties between Parliament, county governments, and key devolution stakeholders.
A series of funeral rites and memorial ceremonies have been scheduled to honour his life and service.
A Requiem Mass will be held on Wednesday, 10th December, at the Buruburu Church of God Community Centre starting at 12:00 p.m.
On Thursday, 11th December, the body will be airlifted to Kisumu International Airport before being taken to his ancestral home in Emulunya Village, Khwisero, Kakamega County, where a night vigil will be held.
The procession will continue on Friday, 12th December, with a second night vigil at his Kipsingori Farm in Moi’s Bridge, Kitale.
The funeral service and burial will take place on Saturday, 13th December 2025, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Dr. Buchere is fondly remembered for his passion for devolution, his humility, and his deep commitment to public service. His contributions to strengthening intergovernmental relations and enhancing the Senate’s engagement with county governments have been hailed as exemplary.
