Police in Malindi have recovered a body, two human skulls, and rescued four people during a security operation in a remote homestead at Kwa Binzaro village, Adu Ward, just a few kilometres from the infamous Shakahola Forest.

The operation, led by Kilifi County Commissioner Josphat Biwott, targeted a secluded settlement deep within the forest.

Authorities said three of the rescued individuals, all women, appeared extremely frail and were rushed to Malindi Sub-County Hospital for treatment. The fourth, a man, was reported to be in stable condition.

“One man and three women were rescued. The women were quite weak while the man seemed to be doing fine,” Biwott confirmed.

According to Biwott, the recovered body is suspected to have died approximately two days prior to the raid. The body and two human skulls were moved to Malindi Sub-County Mortuary for preservation and forensic analysis.

The homestead’s owner, believed to have purchased land in the Chakama area, was not present during the operation and remains unidentified. Authorities have yet to determine whether the site is linked to cult-related activities similar to the Shakahola tragedy.

“We cannot make conclusions at this point. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will conduct a thorough probe to establish the nature of this homestead and what transpired there,” Biwott stated.
