Every Blade Broken is a Life Saved, Nguvu Collective, KEWOPA & Anti-FGM Board Kenya Join Forces to End FGM in Kenya.
In a powerful public event held in Nairobi, Nguvu Collective, in partnership with the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) and the Anti-FGM Board Kenya, launched Break the Blade—a campaign to eliminate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Kenya.
This symbolic event gathered key leaders, activists, and politicians to publicly condemn FGM and push for stronger measures to end the practice.
Leading the campaign, Nguvu Collective’s CEO, Preethi Herman, emphasized the role of Nguvu Change Leaders, many of whom are FGM survivors who now fight tirelessly against this human rights abuse.
“Every cut, every scar, is a violation of a girl’s fundamental rights,” said Nguvu Change Leaders urging more people to stand against this damaging ritual.
Key attendees included Anti-FGM Board CEO Mrs. Bernadette Resian Loloju, Anti-FGM Board Chairperson Madam Ipato Surum, Samburu West MP Hon. Naisula Lesuuda, and several other representatives.
They participated in a symbolic “blade-breaking” ceremony, highlighting the urgency of collective action.
Additionally, Hon. Donya Dorice Aburi presented the Sexual Offences Amendment Bill 2023, aimed at expanding FGM awareness in schools.
This campaign, strengthened by the voices of policy makers, Nguvu Change Leaders, and supportive organizations, shines a spotlight on the impact of FGM and calls on everyone to join the movement to #BreakTheBlade.
