Voter Registration Resumes September 29 —Here’s What You Need to Know

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced that continuous voter registration will officially resume soon across Kenya on Monday, September 29, 2025.

The drive is aimed at Kenyans who have just turned 18, those who have never registered before, and anyone who wants to move their registration to a new polling station for example, if you’ve moved to a different area since the last election.

To register, you’ll need to show up in person with either your original national ID or a valid Kenyan passport.

“Registration will be available at all IEBC constituency offices and Huduma Centres countrywide,” the Commission said in a statement. “We’ll also send out mobile teams to reach remote and marginalized communities, so that no one is left behind.”

Already registered Kenyans but wish to move where they vote can do that by taking their passport or ID to the IEBC office closest to them.

Even overseas citizens will not be left behind the Commission will conduct registration at some of the countries’ embassies, high commissions, and consulates where the IEBC has offices.

IEBC has also notified the public that permanent registration of voters will cease 60 days before the 2027 General Election, as envisaged by law.

“We urge all potential Kenyan voters who have not registered yet to take advantage of this opportunity and prepare to vote,” the Commission stated.

So how do you register as a new voter?

Go to your nearest IEBC Constituency Office (unless a by-election is ongoing in that area).

Carry your original national ID or Kenyan passport.

Ask for Form A – this is the official voter registration form.

You’ll be asked to give your biometric details – fingerprints and a photo.

Once that’s done, you’ll get a small slip confirming your registration.

A quick heads-up: this slip is just for confirmation it’s not your voting card. On Election Day, you’ll still need to bring your ID or passport to the polling station.
