The National Police Service (NPS) has recovered 969 stolen livestock following two separate banditry raids in Isiolo and Meru counties as security agencies intensify efforts to combat livestock theft.

The recovered animals include 956 goats, 10 cattle and three donkeys, according to the police.
In the first incident, bandits raided Gotu in Isiolo County on October 26, 2026. Officers from the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gotu, working alongside multi-agency security teams, responded swiftly and recovered 256 goats.
Police said officers continued pursuing the suspects in an effort to recover the remaining stolen livestock.

In a separate operation, officers from ASTU Kisima and other security agencies responded to a banditry raid at Maili Tano, along the Meru–Isiolo border.

With support from aerial surveillance, the security team pursued the suspects and intercepted them in the Dam area.
An intense exchange of gunfire followed, after which officers recovered 700 goats, 10 cattle and three donkeys.

The National Police Service said Operation Maliza Uhalifu would continue across affected regions to dismantle criminal networks involved in banditry and livestock theft.

The service also called on members of the public to share timely information about banditry and other criminal activities with the nearest police station or s
security camp to support ongoing operations.
