Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has described Bondo as a significant chapter in Kenya’s political history, highlighting its association with the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga and his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
Speaking after attending Sunday Service at St. Michael and All Angels ACK Cathedral, Muturi said Bondo holds a special place in Kenya’s political narrative and has been central to a tradition associated with political reform and democratic change.
He noted that Raila Odinga played a significant role in Kenya’s political evolution, including the struggle for political pluralism, the making of the 2010 Constitution and the country’s transition towards multiparty democracy.
According to Muturi, Raila’s political influence extended beyond his traditional political base, with his career spanning his tenure as Prime Minister and several presidential contests.
Muturi said Raila’s death had left a significant space in Kenya’s political landscape, adding that his legacy should be viewed beyond his role as a politician.
His remarks come ahead of October 15, when Kenya will mark one year since Raila’s passing.
Muturi said Bondo provides an opportunity to reflect on Raila’s vision of a democratic, just, united and equitable Kenya, adding that the conversation should involve all Kenyans.
