Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has highlighted the ongoing expansion of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Vihiga Campus as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare training and advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The project, being undertaken at the institution’s new location in Iduku, Mbihi Sub-Location, seeks to relocate the campus from the congested town centre to a purpose-built facility equipped to support modern healthcare training.
The development comes as the government continues to prioritise Universal Health Coverage (UHC) under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), alongside long-term plans to build a healthier and more productive population beyond Vision 2030.
Construction of the new campus is currently ongoing, with the works expected to pave the way for its operationalisation once completed.
According to Omollo, the investment is aimed at providing additional space and improved facilities to accommodate the campus’s growing student population while creating a more conducive learning environment for healthcare trainees.
The expansion is also expected to complement broader government efforts to increase the number of skilled healthcare professionals and improve access to quality healthcare services across the country.
The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has emphasised the link between health, security and national development, noting that healthy communities are better positioned to participate in economic and social activities and contribute to a stable and prosperous nation.
