A suspect alleged to be dealing in stolen electronics was arrested on Thursday in Mathare following a police crackdown prompted by community intelligence.
The suspect was found in possession of dozens of suspected stolen electronic gadgets, Police officers at Utalii Police Station said.
The raid carried out in his residence where he also runs an electronic repair business yielded 72 mobile phones, two laptops, a camera, a Pandora device, two external hard disks, a CPU, and a Universal Flashing Interface (UFI).
Police confirm 32 of the phones have already been positively linked to M-KOPA, a mobile asset financing company. The others were being retained in evidence as authorities tried to trace their rightful owners.
The suspect is in custody and will be produced before court as investigations continue.
Police credited members of the public for the tip-off that led to arrest and urged further cooperation under community policing.
“This operation was successful because someone raised an alarm. We want more Kenyans to come forward,” a senior officer at Utalii said.
