Daughter of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, Saumu Mbuvi, has bid her interest for the Nairobi County Women Representative seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Saumu declared intention to vie the seat through the National Economic Development Party (NEDP) ticket, stating she wants to build her leadership and serve the people of Nairobi.
“I am not stepping forward because leadership is a title. I am stepping forward because leadership is a responsibility, a covenant with the people and an opportunity to turn lived realities into meaningful action,” Saumu said.
Her campaign runs under “A New Voice for a Brighter Nairobi” with the tagline “Equal Voices. Real Opportunities.”
The agenda of her campaign is anchored on: education, skills, jobs and enterprise, health and well-being and a safer and inclusive Nairobi. She identified youth unemployment, skills development, entrepreneurship and social protection as challenges for the residents of Nairobi.
“My vision is to contribute to a Nairobi where representation translates into results,” she added.
However, the NEDP has reiterated all aspirants will be required to undergo party primaries, ruling out direct nominations and candidates who emerge victorious in the primaries will be cleared to represent NEDP in the respective elective seats.
