The government has announced plans to upgrade an additional 300 kilometres of roads in Tharaka Nithi County to bitumen standards at a cost of Sh19 billion.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said the projects are part of ongoing efforts to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activity and enhance livelihoods across the county.
Speaking at Kabururu in Chuka Igambang’ombe Constituency on Thursday, September 10, 2026, Kindiki said several roads in the constituency have either been completed or are under construction.
Completed projects include the Chuka-Kaanwa, Kathwana-Makutano and Ndagani-KK roads. Ongoing works include the Kaanwa-Mwanjate-Chuka TTI-Kamutiiria, Kibugua-Mukuuni-Itugururu-Kabururu-Kamaundi-Murigi-Mate junction, Kibugua-Magenka-Itugururu and Kirege-Forest-Mubukuro roads.
Kindiki also said fresh produce markets, last-mile electricity projects, affordable housing developments, student hostels and nearly a dozen ICT hubs are under construction in the constituency.
He further announced that the contractor for the Sh7 billion Nithi Bridge has reported and is expected to commence construction once the National Land Commission completes acquisition and compensation for affected private property.
Kindiki spoke after inspecting ongoing road works along the Itugururu-Kabururu stretch and addressing residents at Kabururu Centre.
Governor Muthomi Njuki, MPs Patrick Munene, Kareke Mbiuki and Gitonga Murugara, County Assembly Speaker John Mbabu and several MCAs attended the event.
