Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting Kenya’s natural resources, upholding the law and ensuring communities benefit from the country’s natural wealth.
Miano said this after an engagement with the Senate Standing Committee on Security alongside senior officials from key agencies, including the Directors General of the (KWS), (NEMA), and the , as well as representatives from the (KNCHR).
The meeting focused on strengthening accountability, improving coordination among institutions and addressing challenges affecting the management and protection of Kenya’s natural resources.
Miano commended members of the Senate committee for what she described as rigorous engagement, balanced perspectives and commitment to ensuring transparency in the management of the country’s resources.
She noted that sustainable solutions require collaboration between national institutions and local communities, saying that aligning regulatory expertise with grassroots knowledge is critical in protecting resources while respecting human rights.
“From policy formulation at the national level to grassroots implementation within our counties, lasting solutions are being delivered,” Miano said.
The Cabinet Secretary said the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife will continue working with stakeholders to ensure conservation efforts translate into tangible benefits for Kenyans.
She added that the government remains focused on safeguarding Kenya’s natural heritage, enforcing regulations and ensuring that citizens directly benefit from the country’s tourism and wildlife resources.
