Police detective from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Embakasi have arrested a suspect who was involved in the stolen firearm case and recovered a stolen firearm after only a few hours through an intelligence-led operation supported by a forensic investigation.

The police operation was initiated after a firearm belonging to a licensed gun holder was reported missing.

Acting on information and forensic analysis, the police team under the command of the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) Embakasi managed to find and arrest the main suspect, a 42-year-old man named John Bosco Munyao, in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

After the arrest, the suspect is said to have taken the officers to his home in Kangemi where the stolen Glock pistol was found hidden in a suitcase full of clothes.

During the raid, police officers also found 17 rounds of ammunition and two magazines that are thought to be the ones used with the stolen firearm.

The police have taken the firearm and ammunition into their department and the weapons used in the crime and will continue with the investigation. Per authorities, the accused is still in custody and is expected to be brought to court.

Per the DCI, the successful reinstitution shows how efficient intelligence gathering and forensic investigations are in solving and preventing crime and enhancing public safety.
