Police have arrested a suspect linked to an alleged electricity meter theft syndicate in Nairobi’s Kawangware area after recovering 12 suspected stolen electricity meters from his residence.
The suspect, identified as Clinton Amuma, was arrested at his house in Kawangware Stage 56 following an intelligence-led operation by police officers.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers acted on intelligence linking Amuma to the theft of electricity meters before conducting a search at his residence, where the 12 meters were recovered.
The suspect remains in police custody as detectives process him ahead of his arraignment in court.
The recovered meters have been secured as exhibits to support ongoing investigations into the alleged theft and illegal trade in electricity equipment.
Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) personnel have also been engaged to assist detectives in advancing the investigations and establishing the circumstances surrounding the recovery.
The DCI said it was working closely with KPLC to pursue individuals involved in electricity meter theft and the illicit trade in the company’s equipment.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by investigators to dismantle suspected criminal networks dealing in stolen electricity meters and ensure those found responsible face justice.
