Kenya has taken a major step towards strengthening weather and climate services following the signing of a Statement of Intent between the Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) and Meteo France International (MFI) at State House, Nairobi.

The agreement, witnessed by President William Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron, is aimed at modernizing Kenya’s meteorological systems through the enhancement of observational networks, information systems and flood risk management capacity.

“The cooperation agreement, witnessed by H.E. President Dr.@WilliamsRuto and France President @EmmanuelMacron, seeks to modernize Kenya’s meteorological systems through enhancement of observational networks, information systems and flood risk management capacity,’Ps said in a statement.

Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Change Festus K. Ng’eno said the partnership will improve the delivery of accurate weather and climate information critical for agriculture, disaster risk reduction, environmental management and national planning.

According to the State Department for Environment and Climate Change, the cooperation will also strengthen Kenya’s preparedness and resilience against climate-related risks such as floods and droughts that continue to affect communities across the country.

The collaboration is expected to boost scientific innovation and support sustainable development efforts as Kenya continues to invest in climate resilience and environmental protection.
