Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen says the Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit will operate under a multi-agency framework to enhance coordination and improve law enforcement across the capital.
Murkomen says he convened a technical committee meeting that is spearheading the formation and operationalization of the unit, where officials briefed him on the proposed structure, command framework, and rollout strategy.
The unit, which is anchored on a cooperation agreement between the National Government and the Nairobi City County Government, is expected to become operational by 1st May.

According to the CS, the new policing structure will deliver a more responsive, efficient, and accountable security system within the Nairobi metropolitan area, improving safety for residents, visitors, and investors.
The meeting brought together senior security and government officials including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General (KPS) Eliud Lagat, DIG (APS) Gilbert Masengeli, Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin, and Principal Administrative Secretaries Beverly Opwora and Jacob Narengo.
Also present were Musa Machooka from the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Nairobi City County Chief Officer for Security and Compliance Eva Wairiuko, among other senior government officials.
