Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has said that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga will not return to opposition politics following his unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
In a social media post on Monday, Cherargei hinted that Odinga could soon be included in the government.
He praised Odinga’s extensive experience and energy, stressing that his involvement would contribute to Kenya’s prosperity and dismissing expectations that the ODM leader would rejoin the opposition.
“H.E. Ruto, together with the incoming PM/PCS, are discussing the welfare of our beloved country. Baba Raila Odinga has vast experience and energy to offer for Kenya’s prosperity. The unity and peace of our nation will spur the growth of our country. To the naysayers, you are mistaken! Raila will not join in undermining the government and engaging in opposition politics. You will wait a long time for that,” Cherargei wrote.
Odinga recently returned to Kenya after a short break in Dubai, following his loss to Djibouti’s Mahmoud Youssouf Ali in the AUC election.

Upon his return, he indicated that he would soon reveal his next political move.
Speaking in Mombasa, Odinga explained that he would engage in consultations with his allies and supporters before deciding his next steps.
“We are available for Africa but, more importantly, for Kenya. I’m back home, and I’ll meet with my friends and supporters. I’ll consult widely, and in due time, we will announce our way forward,” Odinga stated.
A group of Kenya Kwanza lawmakers has proposed constitutional amendments to facilitate Odinga’s potential inclusion in the government as Prime Minister.

However, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly urged Odinga to return to the opposition, highlighting the need for a strong opposition to hold the current administration accountable.
