President William Ruto has defended his government’s fuel price policy even though the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) increase KSh 28 per litre for petrol and KSh 40 for diesel.
He was speaking during his visit to Kisii County on the last day of his four-day development tour. The head of state stated that the government measures have not only helped Kenya to avoid fuel shortages but they have also protected Kenyans from high fuel prices that would have been pumped.
He explained that local fuel prices have always been affected by global market pressures, however, import guidelines government-to-government, changing taxes and subsidies only to the sectors concerned, have been major factors in stabilizing supply and consumer’s cushioning.
However, the President stated that the opponents’ criticisms are ignored as he is committed to delivering his promises made before the elections and raising people’s standards of living.
“Over the past three years, we have stabilised the economy and secured funding to revive many stalled projects across the country. These projects are positioning our country on the path to a first-world economy.” he said
During his tour, Ruto commissioned the Etago-Ekona-Geteri-Nyamaiya road in Bomachoge Chache upgrade which is part of the major 220 km road development programme in the county.
Furthermore, he revealed that there are considerations for Suneka Airstrip expansion and that Gusii Stadium will be upgraded.
