Walking around Times Tower could soon become easier after the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) announced plans to put up pedestrian barriers
In a new tender notice, KRA has invited contractors to apply for a job to install pedestrian barriers around the busy area. The aim is to make it safer and easier for people to walk near the building.
The project focuses on Haile Selassie Avenue, one of the busiest streets in town. During rush hours, the road is often crowded with people, boda bodas, and other activities. In many occasions, the street has been congested with many pedestrians, boda bodas, and other people.
According to KRA, the barrier construction will enable the creation of pedestrian walkways and minimize conflicts between pedestrians and motorists.
This initiative is among measures taken by KRA to regulate movement of pedestrians and motorists within the city amid a population increase in the country.
According to the open tender, those contractors who wish to participate in the project should conduct a site inspection at Times Tower
A virtual pre-bid meeting will be held on April 21 to clarify project requirements before submission of bids, which are expected by April 30.
This is not the first upgrade planned around the building. KRA had earlier shared plans to repair the pavements around Times Tower. The work will include removing old pavement and putting up new ones, along with bollards and manhole covers.
The Ksh2 billion project aims at preventing accidents and ensuring easy movement through creating pathways that would allow pedestrians to move underground without meeting any vehicles.
In addition, there is ongoing construction of new viaduct roads to assist in reducing the number of cars within the busy parts such as Kenyatta Avenue, Haile Selassie, and Upper Hill. The construction process will be completed by December 2026.
All these initiatives have led city officials to believe that life within Nairobi CBD will soon be easy and free from worries.
