Popular Tanzanian Bongo star Matonya, whose real name is Sefu Ramadhan has been charged in court for a rape case in Nyali constituency, Mombasa county. The artiste appeared on Thursday April 7, 2026 before a court in Mombasa.
According to the court, the alleged offence occurred at an apartment in Nyali constituency. Prosecutors told the court, Matonya is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the residence unlawfully.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Robinson Ondiek at the Shanzu Law Court in Mombasa, Matonya denied the charges and granted him a release of bond Ksh. 500,000.
The court has ordered his passport and not leave the country without the court approval. His case has sparked online debate from his fans and supporters reacting over his allegations, where he was known among the superstar of Bongo flava music.
The case will proceed through pre-trial procedures, before a full hearing is scheduled later in the month. According to the court, more of his details have been disclosed citing privacy concerns.
