President William Ruto has concluded the rollout of the NYOTA programme’s Business Start-Up Capital initiative in Wajir County, handing over KSh63 million to 2,520 young entrepreneurs.

The programme, aimed at supporting youth to start or grow their businesses, has so far benefited 121,800 young Kenyans across the country, with a total of KSh2.5 billion disbursed in the first phase. In the coming weeks, each beneficiary will receive an additional KSh25,000, bringing the total support to KSh50,000 per young entrepreneur.

President Ruto said the initiative goes beyond financial aid, with structured mentorship and access to affordable credit planned to ensure the sustainability and growth of the new businesses.

“The NYOTA programme is designed to give young people a real opportunity to build their dreams while contributing to the economy,” President Ruto said.

The President also highlighted ongoing government efforts to mitigate drought, noting that over KSh10 billion has been released in the past three months to safeguard lives, livelihoods, and livestock in affected regions.

In a move to boost development in the Northern Frontier, Wajir town will soon have a 10,000-seater modern stadium, costing KSh900 million, which will host this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations—marking the first time a national holiday will be commemorated in the region.
