Detectives from the Nairobi Central Sub-County have arrested two suspects and recovered more than 900 stolen mobile phones following a major intelligence-led operation in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

The operation, conducted along Charles Rubia Street near the busy Buscar bus stage, led officers to intercept two suspicious packages that were destined for Uganda. Upon inspection, the packages were found to contain approximately 900 stolen mobile phones.

According to preliminary investigations, the two suspects are believed to be part of a wider inter-country phone theft syndicate involved in stealing mobile phones from unsuspecting members of the public and mobile phone shops before trafficking them to neighbouring countries for resale.

The suspects, identified as Brian Yomasia and Stephen Okwachi Shisia, were unable to give a satisfactory explanation regarding the origin of the recovered devices. They were arrested on the spot and escorted to Nairobi Central Police Station, where they are being processed pending arraignment in court.

The recovery comes barely days after another successful operation on January 24, 2026, in which detectives recovered over 150 stolen mobile phones, highlighting an intensified crackdown on mobile phone theft
