Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured police officers that they will not face victimivictimisationicing their concerns during the ongoing Jukwaa la Usalama county engagements.
Speaking during a town hall meeting in Kericho County, CS Murkomen emphasiemphasisedhe forums are meant to collect honest feedback from both the public and police officers, stressing that openness is encouraged.
JHe, however, implored the officers to be cordial in the manner they address their issues, so as not to be misconstrued as disrespectful or insensitive.
The CS noted that although the said officer was trying to paint a picture of what the female officers go through especially in frontline deployment, the CS maintained that the Kenya Kwanza government’s commitment is to empower and support both genders without discrimination.”No one will be victimised for speaking the truth,” said the CS, adding that the government appreciates the role of all gendera in policing.
He affirmed that even the upcoming recruitment of 10,000 officers by the National Police Service (NPS) will consider women in their numbers.
Speaking during the Jukwaa La Usalama townhall meeting in Kericho, the CS noted that the reactions to the OCS’s remarks should not make officers to shy away from openly stating their concerns in public.
The CS also assured that public that expectant officers and those with various conditions will not be deployed to the frontline of operations.
On promotions, the CS said the directive to promote officers over 50 and above who have stagnated in the position of constable, corporal and sergeant will be considered in a progressive manner.
Further, the CS announced the rollout of training of chiefs which has stalled since 2018. “After eight years, 1000 officers will be training from tomorrow ( Friday) August 8th. Another group will start next month,” confirmed the CS. The training is on public administration.
