With the African Nations Championship (CHAN) set to kick off in August, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called on Kenyans to conduct themselves with decorum and hospitality.
Kenya, alongside Uganda and Tanzania, will co-host the continental tournament, which is expected to draw thousands of fans and visitors from across Africa.
Speaking after inspecting the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium with Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, Murkomen said the event presents a valuable opportunity for Kenyans to showcase the country’s warmth and hospitality.
“Let us be on our best behaviour. When you have guests in your home, you treat them with respect and kindness. We have visitors coming to our country, and we must ensure they feel welcomed and at home,” said Murkomen.
His remarks come amid a period of national unrest, with widespread protests and criticism directed at the government, some of which have led to fatalities and property damage.
Murkomen also appealed to Kenyans to be helpful and courteous to foreign fans who may be unfamiliar with local routes or amenities.

“I urge all Kenyans to be kind and patient with our guests. Many will be visiting for the first time and may need directions or tips on places to visit. Let’s make a good impression by being helpful,” he added.
He assured the public that security will be tight throughout the tournament, with personnel deployed at all major entry points, hotels, streets, and stadiums to ensure the safety of players, fans, and officials.
Sports CS Salim Mvurya expressed confidence in the preparations and security measures in place, noting that the venues are ready for the month-long event.
“As a government, we are committed to delivering a world-class tournament in a safe and festive environment. Harambee Stars will be representing Kenya—not a region, not a political party, not a tribe, but the entire nation,” Mvurya said.
Nyayo stadium is ready to host CHAN games.
Harambee Stars will play all their matches at Kasarani Stadium, while Nyayo Stadium will host other Group A games and a key Group C fixture between Niger and Algeria.
