Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, has lauded President William Ruto’s administration for prioritising education by employing the highest number of teachers within the shortest period since Kenya gained independence.
Speaking in Bumula Constitution in Bungoma County, Wetangula affirmed that 76000 teachers have been employed in two years, and an additional 24000 teachers are set to be recruited under the 2025/2026 financial year. “President Ruto’s administration has employed the highest number of teachers within the shortest period since independence. In just two years, we have employed over 76,000 teachers. And in this year’s budget, we have provided for the recruitment of another 24,000. In three years, he will have hit the 100,000 mark.” said Wetangula.
If the recruitment target of 100,000 teachers is met by next year, it would represent the largest single-term teacher employment initiative in Kenya’s history.
