The June 25 demonstrations became a personal and painful experience for Kenyan pop artist Nadia Mukami when a harrowing video was shared on social media showing her husband, singer Arrow Bwoy, being whipped by police in Nairobi.

The original footage, freely circulating on social media, seems to show an officer using excessive force against demonstrators. Among them was Arrow Bwoy, who was apparently whipped with a lash during scenes of screaming and chaos.

Mukami, visibly agitated, responded on Instagram angrily:

"Nyinyi mafala msishike baba watoto wangu!!!! #endpolicebrutality Nimejam ata!!!!"(You fools, don't touch my baby daddy!!!! I am so angry!!!!!)

An outspoken critic of the Finance Bill, Mukami had herself joined 2024 protests, even suspending her EP campaign to join the thousands of Kenyans on the streets. This year, though, she cited being pregnant as the reason for staying off the streets but has been vocal on social media.

Earlier in a post, she reminded fans:

"We are the ones we have been waiting for! The future is now!"

The incident has reignited public outrage over police conduct and added emotional weight to Mukami’s advocacy. For her, the struggle is no longer just about policy it’s personal.
