The Ministry of Health has stepped up efforts to safeguard patients by cracking down on unqualified health workers operating in Kenya’s hospitals
Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga announced that the Ministry is digitising health worker records to ensure only certified professionals serve in both public and private facilities. The initiative aims to boost accountability and restore trust in the country’s healthcare system.
Speaking at the 110th anniversary celebration of Kijabe Hospital in Kiambu County, Dr. Oluga stressed that the reforms are part of broader strategies to improve service delivery and protect patient safety.
“We are taking bold steps to ensure every Kenyan receives care from a qualified health professional,” he said. “This is about safety, integrity, and quality.”
Dr. Oluga also highlighted ongoing investments in capacity building to equip the health workforce with skills aligned to modern medical needs.
He praised private health institutions for their role in advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and urged citizens to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) scheme by dialing *147#.
“Let us work together to ensure accessible, safe, and affordable healthcare for every Kenyan,” he added.
