The National Police Service (NPS) has warned the public about a fraudulent recruitment poster circulating on social media, claiming to recruit police constables.
The NPS took to their official social media platforms to dismiss the poster as fake, urging Kenyans to disregard it. “Fake! Purported recruitment into the National Police Service,” the NPS stated in a post.
The counterfeit poster falsely outlined the entry requirements, recruitment start dates, and instructions for submitting applications.
For official communications, the NPS reminded the public to rely only on their verified social media accounts and the official website.
Earlier this year, the government announced plans to recruit at least 10,000 new police officers.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo confirmed that the National Assembly had allocated funds for 5,000 recruits, but discussions are ongoing with MPs to secure additional funding to increase the number to 10,000.
“The government will work with elected leaders to ensure that more young people are brought into the police service,” Omollo said.
The recruitment is aimed at enhancing security, especially in areas with heightened risks, like northeastern Kenya. Data from the Kenyan National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) showed that Kenya’s police-to-population ratio was 1:688 in 2021, well above the globally recommended ratio of 1:450.
