Afro-benga musician Awicko Woud Nyapala has revealed his dire financial situation, admitting that he is currently broke and in need of financial assistance. The singer, who has been in the music industry for nearly five years, shared his struggles with fans in a heartfelt video, explaining that his financial difficulties stem from a lack of consistent gigs, delayed royalty payments, and reinvesting any earnings back into his music career.

Awicko, known for his distinctive sound, had hoped his music would provide a stable income to support himself, his partner, and their two children. However, without corporate endorsements or regular performances, the musician has found himself unable to make ends meet. “The company distributing my music hasn’t been able to pay me my royalties on time,” Awicko explained. “The little money I’ve earned has gone straight back into making more music, but there’s been no financial stability.”

Things took a turn for the worse last year when Awicko was evicted from his rented home due to unpaid rent. “I’m now homeless,” he said, revealing that it has been nearly three weeks since he had a proper meal. The artist, who has been battling mounting bills, is now appealing to Kenyans and his fans for financial help to get back on his feet.

In a previous interview, Awicko shared that he was at his lowest point during the Covid-19 pandemic and even considered suicide due to mounting debts. The emotional toll of the pandemic inspired his hit song “Ohala,” which he wrote as a form of therapy during that dark time.

Awicko’s situation is not unique in Kenya’s entertainment industry. Many celebrities, once at the height of their careers, have faced financial challenges. Others, including rapper Colonel Moustapha and actor Kinuthia Omosh, have also sought financial help from their fans after falling on hard times.

Awicko is now asking for support from his fans, hoping they will come together to assist him during this tough period. Those willing to help can send financial donations via his mobile number, 0712668803.
