Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has promoted Beatrice Chebet and Abraham Kibiwot to the Corporal rank.
The two are the National Police Service (NPS) athletes who represented Kenya in the just concluded Paris Olympic Games 2024.
Speaking after receiving them at Jogoo House on Wednesday, August 14, Masengeli said their promotion is on merit, expressing gratitude to the athletes for their dedication and discipline.
In the competition, Corporal Chebet won two gold medals after impressive outings in 5000m and 10,000m races, while Abraham Kibiwot won a bronze in the men’s 3000m steeplechase.
Masengeli further implored the two to keep off malpractices especially doping.
In his remarks, Deputy IG Eliud Lagat said the exploits by NPS officers in both track and field are a clear indication of NPS’s commitment to promoting sports in the service, and commended the athletes and their technical team.
William Ruto To Host Team Kenya Olympic Champions in Eldoret
In other news, President William Ruto will, on Thursday, August 15, host Team Kenya in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the Eldoret State Lodge.
State House Press Secretary Emmanuel Talam said the athletes currently in Nairobi will fly to the reception aboard the president’s aircraft.
They will then embark on a ceremonial drive to the state lodge for breakfast. This will be followed by a grand entry to the Sports Club for the inauguration of the City of Champions.
In the Paris edition, team Kenya bagged 11 medals: four gold, two silver and five bronze. This made Kenya emerge top in Africa and 17th globally out of over 180 nations that participated in the 2024 edition.
