Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s lawyer, John Khaminwa, has urged High Court judges to save his client from impeachment.

Khaminwa argued that Gachagua currently enjoys a poll rating of 70% in the whole country, so he should be allowed to continue serving.

"Currently, I'm advised that the poll rating of DP Gachagua is 70% in the country. He has won a lot of sympathy votes from those who didn't like him at all. 70% is quite a big percentage," claimed Khaminwa.

The lawyer further argued that President William Ruto was elected jointly with Gachagua and the two are inseparable.

"DP is not a small position in the hierarchy of Kenya. He and our President Ruto worked together jointly and they won the election. One of them became President the other DP. In my view the two are inseparable and you cannot take one and leave another one," he added.

Khaminwa cautioned judges against lifting conservatory orders and allowing the swearing-in of Kithure Kindiki as the next deputy president, saying the move would throw the country into anarchy.
