A group of concerned residents from Nairobi has officially petitioned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to initiate the immediate recall of Nairobi Woman Representative, Esther Muthoni Passaris.

The petition was filed on Monday by activist Shakira Wafula and was acknowledged by the IEBC on the same day.

It accuses Passaris of violating the Constitution, abusing her office, neglecting her official duties, and breaching public trust.

“Hon. Passaris has exhibited conduct unbecoming of a State Officer, undermined constitutional values, disrespected the electorate, and failed to carry out her representative and oversight responsibilities with integrity, impartiality, and accountability,” the petition states.

The petitioners have invoked Article 104 of the Constitution of Kenya and Section 45 of the Elections Act, which empower voters to seek the recall of an elected official who they believe has failed in their constitutional mandate.

In their statement, the petitioners declared:

“We, the undersigned citizens and registered voters of Nairobi County, hereby submit this petition… seeking the immediate recall of Hon. Esther Muthoni Passaris.”

The IEBC is responsible for overseeing the recall process for Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of County Assembly (MCAs).
