Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that 550,000 Kenyans have registered for home ownership under the Affordable Housing Programme through the Boma Yangu platform.

In a statement after the appraisal briefing on the Affordable Housing Programme with among others, Housing Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, Kindiki said the allocation process for those who have registered will begin soon once the housing projects are complete.

"The government is expanding the housing programme to match the demand and supply for affordable and dignified housing. From January 2025, some of the housing projects will be ready for commissioning, allocation and occupation by the new home owners," said Kindiki.

The DP announced 100 housing projects in 45 counties that will yield 135,515 units are in various stages of completion.

The construction, Kindiki said has provided job opportunities for more than 200,000 people. This is in line with the government’s job creation initiative.

"The ongoing housing projects have availed more than KSh 4 billion worth of work for the Jua Kali sector and accelerated growth in the manufacturing of cement, steel and other construction materials," Kindiki noted.
