The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested two men who were captured red-handed trying to bribe their Kondele colleagues with KSh 179,000.
The two, Eugene Kiprop Kipchirchir, 38, and Hillary Kiplangat Kibet, aged 40, aimed to use the hefty bribe to make the DCI officers turn a blind eye to a notorious car theft suspect.
DCI said the duo spun a web of lies, claiming to possess crucial information about a well-known fugitive involved in car theft.
During their interrogation after arrest, Kiprop and Kibet spilled the beans, leading the officers to a parking lot at Dondez restaurant.
There, the officers nabbed the main suspect, Rashid Oyondi Nyanuba, who was hiding inside an Isuzu double cab with the license plate KAW 092Y.
The three are being held at Kondele Police Station, awaiting arraignment.
"The Directorate of Criminal Investigations will not turn a blind eye to corruption and will uphold the law with the utmost integrity and impartiality. Cases of attempting to tip the scales of justice with underhanded tactics will be dealt with in accordance with the law," DCI said.
