Nairobi-based communications consultancy Woodrow has been named Africa Agency of the Year 2026 by PRovoke Media, recognising its rapid growth and strategic communications work across the continent.
The award by PRovoke Media, a global authority in the communications industry, celebrates Woodrow’s role in helping organisations manage complex communication, policy, reputation and stakeholder challenges across African markets.

In announcing the recognition, PRovoke Media described Woodrow as “a different kind of communications firm for Africa,” highlighting its locally built model, cross-border operations and focus on high-stakes assignments shaped by the continent’s political and economic realities.

Founded five years ago by Charlie Tarr, a communications expert with more than two decades of experience working across African markets, Woodrow has expanded from its Nairobi headquarters into a multi-market consultancy with teams and partners in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Senegal and South Africa.

The firm currently delivers communications support across 13 African countries and has more than doubled its revenue since 2024 while expanding its regional footprint.
Woodrow said its work has supported campaigns and assignments that have reached global audiences of more than 70 million people across multiple markets.

“When we started Woodrow, we believed Africa deserved communications advice built for Africa’s realities, not imported templates. This recognition is a testament to our people, our clients and our belief that world-class strategic communications can be built from the continent and compete with the very best anywhere in the world,” said Charlie Tarr, Founder and CEO of Woodrow Communications.

The consultancy’s growth has been driven by its local-first operating model, which combines in-country expertise with regional coordination and strategic advisory services.
Woodrow works with organisations including AGRA, Bupa Global, BIC, international foundations, investors and development institutions operating across Africa.

David Karega, Head of East and Southern Africa at Woodrow, said the award reflects the confidence clients have placed in the firm during critical moments, including major launches, investment announcements, reputation management initiatives, policy engagements and crisis communications.

“This award belongs to the team and the clients who have trusted us with some of their most important moments. It shows that globally recognised PR excellence can be built from Nairobi and delivered across Africa,” Karega said.

Looking ahead, Woodrow plans to strengthen its capabilities in digital influence, audience intelligence and integrated stakeholder engagement as organisations seek to navigate Africa’s evolving media and communication landscape.

Tarr said Africa remains central to the firm’s future, noting growing opportunities in technology, investment, food systems, climate and economic transformation.
“Africa has never been a side conversation for us. It sits at the centre of our work and future,” he said.
