What began as an ordinary commute in Nairobi turned into a heartbreaking tragedy for a woman identified as Betty, a resident from Senende in Vihiga County.
Betty is said to have boarded a matatu at Kangemi intending to travel to Central Business District (CBD). It is reported that she paid her fare and settled into her seat, leaned back, appearing to rest peacefully as the journey unfolded.
For the other passengers, it was a routine ride through Nairobi’s bustling streets but for Betty, it was her final journey.
When the matatu reached its destination, passengers began alighting; the conductor noticed Betty had not alighted, thinking it was just asleep but due to concern, noticed she was not responding.
Witnesses say the moment must have been difficult to comprehend, as the woman’s intention was to get to town and do her daily business, but it ended as her final journey in the matatu.
Authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of her death, as friends, relatives and family members come to terms with the sad news and questions what happened and the circumstances surrounding her death.
