President William Ruto, on Monday, October 20, posthumously conferred the late former prime minister Raila Odinga the First Class Chief of the Order of Golden Heart (CGH), Kenya’s highest state honour.

In a gazette notice seen by TUKIO.co.ke announcing and qualifying the conferment, President Ruto noted that Raila dedicated the entirety of his adult life to the pursuit of justice, freedom and the equitable development of Kenya and advancement of her people.

The former prime minister’s lastborn daughter, Winnie Odinga, is among the first people to celebrate the honour.

Taking to her official social media pages, Winnie indicated she was very proud of her father after getting the CGH honour, which is mostly conferred to sitting and former presidents.

"First Class – Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya
(C.G.H.) I’m so very proud of you Dad. ❤️," said Winnie while sharing the gazette notice of the announcement.
