Philemon Yang, the President of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, has arrived in Kenya for a three-day official visit. Yang arrived in the country on Tuesday, February 18, where he was welcomed by Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary provided insights into Yang’s visit, which includes discussions with President William Ruto aimed at enhancing cooperation between Kenya and the United Nations.

The discussions will prioritize multilateral diplomacy and global concerns. They will focus on Kenya’s involvement in international diplomacy, improving collaboration with the UN, and tackling urgent regional and global challenges.

“The conversations will revolve around strengthening Kenya’s standing in multilateral diplomacy, increasing partnership with the United Nations, and advancing important regional and global objectives,” the statement from Kenya’s foreign ministry indicated.

It continued: “In addition to meeting with the Head of State and senior government figures, the President of the General Assembly will give a public lecture, interact with members of the United Nations community, academia, policy think tanks, innovators, and stakeholders from the private sector. He will also tour green areas and wildlife conservation sites in Nairobi,” the statement further noted.

“This visit highlights the strong and enduring relationship between Kenya and the United Nations, reaffirming Kenya’s leadership role in both regional and global matters.”
