England defender John Stones has withdrawn from the national team squad ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers due to a muscle injury.

Manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed that the 31-year-old Manchester City centre-back arrived at the England training camp carrying a muscular issue, which has failed to improve during his initial assessments.

Stones has featured in all three of Manchester Cityโ€™s Premier League matches this season, but Tuchel emphasized he is not willing to take any risks with the experienced defender.

The withdrawal is a significant setback for Tuchel, who is yet to have Stones available since taking over as England manager.

The defender also missed the last two international camps due to injury.

Tuchel, a noted admirer of Stones, has previously praised the City man for his composure, versatility, and tactical intelligence.

ย The England boss now hopes the issue is not serious and that Stones can be fit in time for the October internationals.
