The Ministry of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Andrew Karanja has announced banning the harvesting of macadamia nuts beginning next month, November.
In a statement, Karanja said the ban will be in effect from November 2, 2024 to March 1, 2025.
The move is aimed at curbing the export of immature macadamia nuts. The CS said exporting processed nuts known as kernels is more beneficial to the country than exporting raw in-shell.
"Following consultations with industry stakeholders, a ban on macadamia harvesting will take effect from November 2, until March 1 2025 to curb the export of macadamia nuts.
Dealers must submit their current stock for inspection, verification, and clearance by November 15 2024, " read the notice.
