Wajir Stadium construction

Interior PS Raymond Omollo announced that construction of the Wajir Stadium will be completed by May, weeks before the Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1.

The PS revealed that the facility is currently about 10% complete, although contractors are working under tight timelines to deliver the project ahead of the national event.

Omollo made the remarks while leading the National Celebrations Steering Committee during an inspection of the 10,000-capacity stadium in Wajir. He received updates from engineers, contractors, and government officials on the progress of construction and the logistical plans required to prepare the venue. The government is also upgrading nearby infrastructure, including works at Wajir International Airport, where the terminal building, taxiway, and runway are being improved to support travel during the celebrations.

The event will mark the first time a national celebration is held in Northern Kenya since independence. President William Ruto earlier announced that KSh 900 million had been allocated for the project, which aims to boost sports development and stimulate economic activity in the region while promoting inclusivity by rotating national celebrations across different parts of the country
