The United States and Iran have agreed to a memorandum of understanding to end more than 100 days of war, announcing a framework to halt military operations and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The agreement will be formally signed in the Swiss city of Geneva in Switzerland on Friday, June 19, following the intensity of Israeli attacks since March.

US President Donald Trump said they will open all shipping on Friday, allowing the blockade on the port to be lifted immediately and bring peace and security to the whole region.

For years, the relations between Washington and Tehran were defined by sanctions, proxy wars and nuclear tensions. The Strait of Hormuz is vital for global oil shipments, was interrupted when the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28 amid talks over Tehran’s nuclear program.

The new deal will lift restrictions, reopen trade routes and establish direct communication channels between the two nations.

“Based on the agreements reached, the war and military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, will end immediately and permanently as of tonight, In addition, the naval blockade against Iran will end immediately and completely,” the Secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said in a statement.

Leaders have praised the deal as a “new dawn,” urging the agreement will build momentum for broader nuclear agreements welcoming the move.
