The unfortunate death of X influencer Albert Ojwang while in police custody has sent shockwaves across the country, with different groups, including President William Ruto, condemning the occurrence.
Kenyans from all walks of life have since come out in support of Ojwang’s family, making monetary contributions to help it plan for the funeral and secure his child’s future.
However, confusion has emerged on which is the official M-Pesa Paybill number to channel the contributions, with philanthropist Eric Omondi and activist Hanifa Adan sharing two different numbers.
From the onset, Omondi spearheaded the contributions, asking Kenyans to send their cash to Ojwang’s father, Meschack Opiyo’s mobile number, as he worked to get a Paybill. He would later share the number- Paybill 247247, Account Number-488987 as the official contributions channel.
On the other hand, Hanifa shared 4699944 as the Paybill to be used, terming it as official as “the entire family has the signatories.”
The activist condemned Omondi, accusing him of supposedly taking the bereaved Ojwang’s family in circles.
However, the confusion has stirred an uproar on social media, with the majority calling out Hanifa for causing the confusion. Here are some comments sampled by TUKIO.co.ke:

Jamach said: "We wont contribute through your playbill."
Agesa: "Can someone ask this conlady called Hanifa ,kwani hatosheki. So again, she wants to be the beneficiary more than the parents of the deceased? Shame on her."
