Kenya has received a significant boost to its routine immunization programme with the arrival of 3 million doses of the Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) this evening.
The consignment was officially received by the Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, in the company of senior officials including Dr. Bashir Issak, Head of the Directorate of Family Health, and Dr. Rose Jalango, Head of the National Vaccines and Immunization Programme (NVIP). Officials from UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) were also present.
Supported by UNICEF and WHO, the delivery comes at a critical time as the country works to replenish national vaccine stocks and sustain protection for newborns and children against tuberculosis.
“This consignment will be distributed to counties immediately to avoid any disruptions in immunization services. It is a testament to our commitment to vaccine security and equitable access for all Kenyan children,” said Dr. Oluga.
The Ministry of Health has reiterated its dedication to strengthening routine immunization and ensuring no child is left behind in the fight against preventable diseases.
