Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on youths across the country to actively participate in elective politics ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying Kenya’s future leadership must be anchored on service delivery, unity, and development rather than political rivalry and division.

Speaking during a Jubilee Party delegates meeting held at Kiambu Golf Club, Uhuru said the country requires a new generation of leaders who are focused on transforming communities and addressing citizens’ needs instead of engaging in divisive political competition.

He urged young people not to shy away from leadership positions, insisting that political office should be open to all citizens who are willing to serve.

“Youths should vie for elective seats in 2027,” Uhuru said, adding that leadership should be guided by vision, responsibility, and commitment to the people.

At the same time, the former President cautioned political leaders and aspirants against inflammatory rhetoric, warning that incitement could fuel divisions and undermine national cohesion as the country approaches the next election cycle.

He emphasised that Kenya’s strength lies in unity, urging leaders to avoid ethnic mobilisation and instead promote inclusive politics.

“Let us not divide our people because of politics,” he said.

Also speaking at the meeting, Juja parliamentary aspirant Waruiru Waithaka, who is vying on a Jubilee Party ticket, welcomed Uhuru’s remarks, saying the call for youth participation in leadership is timely and will empower young people to take an active role in governance.

Waithaka praised the Jubilee Party and its leadership for promoting inclusivity, noting that the move opens political space for emerging leaders and strengthens democracy at the grassroots level.

“We are very happy after former president Uhuru Kenyatta promised that the nomination will be free and fair; we will participate and support our Jubilee Party,” Waruiru Waithaka said.

Former Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura also supported the call, saying the youth remain central to Kenya’s political future and must be given space to compete for elective positions.

Gitura said Jubilee Party continues to position itself as a platform for generational leadership renewal, adding that empowering young leaders will strengthen governance and deepen democratic participation.

He further called for unity within the party and across the political divide, urging leaders to avoid incitement and instead focus on building a stable and inclusive political environment ahead of the 2027 General Election.
