Travellers heading to Uganda will no longer be required to present a yellow fever vaccination certificate when entering the country.
Uganda’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, through the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control, clarified the change in a letter responding to a request from the Uganda Tourism Board.
The tourism body had sought clarification on whether travellers were still required to provide proof of yellow fever card at the country’s entry points.
“Accordingly, travellers to Uganda do not require a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate for entry,” the ministry stated.
The immigration department also noted that the yellow fever vaccination certificate is not listed among the requirements on Uganda’s e-visa application portal.
It further said the requirement does not appear on the website of the National Citizenship and Immigration Control.
It implies that travelers, including those traveling from Kenya, do not have to provide proof of vaccination against yellow fever upon entering Uganda as per the new clarification provided by the immigration department.
Travelers who require more details about the entry requirements to Uganda can contact the Public Relations office of the ministry.
The new clarification is being made at a time when many countries in the East African region are either implementing new entry requirements or revising the existing ones.
Tanzania Implements Mandatory Travel Insurance
Travel insurance has become mandatory for foreigners entering mainland Tanzania by land, sea, or air.
The insurance costs Ksh5,700 (USD44) and is valid for up to 92 days.
However, citizens of East African Community (EAC) countries, including Kenyans, as well as citizens of Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states, are exempt from the requirement.
Kenya also introduced a mandatory inbound travel health insurance framework in July 2026 for non-Kenyans.
However, the implementation of the Kenyan requirement was suspended by the High Court in August after it was challenged in court.
