Kenyan football fans are set to enjoy unmatched access to elite European football after TV47 announced a landmark partnership with Dubai-based Sporty TV to simulcast major European leagues on free-to-air television.

The agreement, covering the entire 2024/25 season, will see matches from the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and Bundesliga broadcast live to millions of Kenyan households—without the need for pay-tv subscriptions.

This marks a significant shift in Kenya’s sports broadcasting landscape, where access to premium football content has long been dominated by subscription-based platforms.

According to a 2023 Communications Authority report, only about 15% of Kenyan households subscribe to pay-tv, leaving the majority reliant on free-to-air options for sports coverage.

TV47, part of the Cape Media Group—which also owns Radio47—has been steadily establishing itself as a go-to destination for sports content.

Its recent acquisition of Kenyan Premier League broadcasting rights and coverage of the FIFA Club World Cup have bolstered its reputation in the market.

Available across multiple platforms, including SIGNET, PANG, ZUKU, GoTV, DStv, and StarTimes, TV47 now reaches an estimated 8 million viewers each week, according to industry figures.

SportyTV, known for making premium sports content widely accessible across Africa, has previously launched in other countries on the continent.

In Kenya, the broadcaster has chosen to collaborate with the youthful and fast-growing TV47 instead of more established networks—an indication of confidence in the station’s trajectory and audience appeal.

To further expand access, Radio47 will provide live match commentary and expert analysis, particularly benefiting fans on the move or in remote areas where TV signals may be limited.

The station’s wide FM footprint ensures national coverage, bringing football closer to every corner of the country.

This partnership promises to reshape how Kenyan audiences experience global football—bridging the accessibility gap and delivering world-class action to fans at no cost.
