The Members of Parliament from Turkana County have sounded the alarm of an upsurge in insecurity in Aroo sub-county, where they accuse bandits from West Pokot County of coming to commit a series of massacres.
The MPs led by John Ariko, the MP for Turkana South, said that these seven cases of banditry that have been mentioned since the beginning of September would at least be an assumption of what the rest of the month might be like, and the people of the area remain scared despite the deployment of security forces in the area
“The assaults are being carried out despite the fact that a multi-agency security team, which was dispatched here for better security, is currently stationed, and this is something that is absolutely unacceptable,” Ariko said, asking the government to immediately review the strategy against banditry. ”
The leaders not only requested the strengthening of operations and the popularization of the measures as a way of ensuring peace for lives, livestock, and livelihoods in the border zone that is already riven with volatility.
Besides, they issued a warning that the persistence of attacks might not only escalate the situation of the border communities but also make the drought and poverty crisis worse.
They also sought help from the leaders of the two sides for conversations about peace between them that would be in line with the security measures adopted to eliminate the banditry menace that keeps recurring
