Sugarcane will no longer be a crop associated with poverty but one that creates wealth and jobs, President William Ruto has affirmed.
The President has said that the government is sustaining reforms in the sugar sector aimed at injecting professionalism, sound management, and efficiency.
He was speaking during a meeting with Members of Parliament from Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma, and Trans-Nzoia Counties at State House, Nairobi.
He emphasized that these efforts are meant to unlock the full potential of the industry and empower communities that have long depended on sugarcane farming.
The meeting comes amid ongoing efforts to revive the ailing sugar industry, which is a key economic driver in Western Kenya.
