Sudan and Senegal will clash once again today in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) bronze medal match, set to take place at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.

Both teams were knocked out in the semifinals on Tuesday—Sudan falling to Madagascar, while Senegal were edged out by Morocco in a dramatic penalty shootout.

For Sudan, this match represents more than just third place; it’s a chance to close the tournament on a high note despite a backdrop of adversity.

With the domestic league suspended for over two years due to ongoing conflict, Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah was tasked with building a competitive team virtually from scratch.

Senegal’s journey, meanwhile, has been shaped by a different narrative. Entering the tournament as defending champions, expectations were immense.

Coach Souleymane Diallo fielded a youthful squad inspired by the victorious 2022 team. They showed flashes of their potential, dominating the group stage and securing a convincing win over Zambia.
